What we offer

Seattle Nautic provides private charters for scattering ashes and burial at sea on Puget Sound. The boat is yours for the duration. There is no schedule to keep and no other party aboard.

Families use the time differently. Some want a service with words read aloud. Some want flowers. Some want silence and the engine idling. All of it is fine. Tell us what you need and we will make room for it.

The legal side, briefly

Burial at sea in the United States is regulated by the EPA under the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act. In broad terms: burial of cremated remains and of human remains must occur at least three nautical miles from shore, and the EPA must be notified within 30 days of the burial. Non-cremated remains have additional depth requirements. Flowers and wreaths must be readily decomposable.

What the day looks like

We depart from Shilshole Bay Marina, Dock V. The run out to legal water is not long. Captain Thao will bring the boat to a stop, cut the engine if you want it cut, and step back. He has done this many times and he understands that the correct thing for a captain to do at that moment is to be quiet and let the family have the space.

Afterwards, we take our time coming back in. Nobody is rushed off the boat.

We will talk through party size, timing, weather windows, and anything you want to bring aboard. There is no charge for that conversation and no obligation to book.

Can we hold a service on the boat?

Yes. The charter is private and the boat is yours for the duration. Families read words, bring flowers, play music, or sit in silence — whatever you need.
